Herbert H. Von Calio, 87, died Thursday, May 9th, after a short illness. A long time resident of Orleans, MA and previously of Pearl River, NY, he was born January 13, 1926 in New York City, served his country proudly in the Marine Corps during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded at the battle of Iwo Jima. Herb studied photography with best friend and fellow Orleans resident, Ray Fortier. It was a lifelong passion, in addition to a good game of golf, and his love of Cape Cod. He is survived by his son, Glen and wife Mary Grace Von Calio of Mariaville, NY and daughter Lynne and husband Michael Cass of Pearl River, NY, and step granddaughter Meredith Cass of St. Louis, MO. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA, followed by his burial in the Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, MA.
