

Brewster – Ida P. Dickey, 102, passed away March 14, 2012 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of James Dalrymple and Carrie Porter. . Born on September 9, 1909 in Arlington MA, she grew up and was educated in Lexington. While working for the E. E. Gray Co., she met her husband, John Dickey, who she married on March 1, 1930. She was a homemaker and raised her family in Concord. When her children were grown, Ida resumed her career and worked for the town of Concord for 25 years. In 1970, she and John retired and moved to Brewster where she has lived for the past 42 years.
She was an avid bowler throughout her life and, for several years, participated in a women’s league in Orleans. She loved playing Bridge and played weekly at the Senior Center in Brewster. She was a devoted fan of both the Patriots and Red Sox. She will be remembered as a lady who loved her family and as someone people simply fell in love with when they met her.
She was predeceased by her husband John, with whom she enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Her brother, Leslie Dalrymple and Sister Ruth Weir also predeceased her. She leaves her daughters, Anne Rice, (widow of Robert F. Rice Sr.) of Brewster and Mary Niemi of FL. Also surviving Ida are 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
There will be visiting hours on Sunday March 18, 2012 from 4-6:30pm pm at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldridge Parkway, Orleans, MA followed by a brief memorial service. On Tuesday March 20, 2012 there will be visitation from 10:30–11:30am at the Holy Family Parish Church, 12 Monument Square, Concord MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am in the church with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ida’s memory may be made to the Brewster Senior Center, 1673 Main St., Brewster MA.
