Inella (Cooper) Arthur, 89, of Eastham died peacefully at Liberty Commons Nursing in Chatham on September 12. She was the wife of James Arthur who predeceased her in March. They had been married for almost 68 years. They met in the Navy during World War II and married after knowing each other for only one week. They devoted their lives to each other and their family. Inella is survived by two daughters, Nora Potts of Eastham and Sue Clark of Brewster and their families. She retired from Eaton Paper Company in Pittsfield, MA in 1978 and moved to Cape Cod where she and Jim started a successful chair caning business. Inella enjoyed her family, her craft endeavors, her friends at Willy’s Gym and estate sales. A graveside service will be planned for later this year in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers Inella requested that you perform a random act of kindness in her memory.

So sorry for your loss! This picture of your Mom looks the same way I remember her from the 1960s at First Baptist Church when your family hosted our youth group. I was the same age as your sister Jean. Your mother was a very giving and friendly person. Again, sorry for your loss.

From the members of the Chequessett Yacht and Country Club:

“A Parable of Immortality”
By Henry van Dyke

As I stand on a mountaintop,
As the great bird approaches,
She is small in my sight but grows larger on approach,
Until I am blessed with the full sight of her graceful wings,
Proud countenance and good company.

All too quickly she grows small again on the horizon
And disappears from view,
And I call out, “There, she is gone!”

But then on a mountaintop beyond me,
And at the precise moment when I note
The Great Bird's departure from my view,
I know that there are new eyes taking up the sight of her,
And fresh voices calling out, “Here she comes!”

Sue and Nora,

We had the privilege of meeting your parents last fall soon after moving next door to them. At a neighborhood gathering your parents shared a cute story with us. They mentioned some of the trials of getting older like not being able to drive anymore and recently moving to the ground floor of their house because of their families concerns about the risks of venturing to the second floor. Your dad, with a twinkle in his eye, said that when no one was around he and your mom would sneak upstairs together but that he would follow your mom to "spot" her in case she fell. They were so charming and cute together we could instantly tell how much they adored each other.

On several occasions your dad would come out and say hi to us or see us off. It meant so much to be so warmly welcomed as the newest members of the neighborhood.

We are so very sorry about the loss of your parents but know that they are happy to be together.
