

EAST ORLEANS – James D. Binder passed away at Liberty Commons Skilled Care and Hospice in North Chatham, MA on August 24th, 2014 at age 84. Son of deceased parents Marguerite and Oswald Binder of Leonia, NJ. Loving husband of Catherine Walten Binder for 60 years. Devoted father of three sons; Kenneth W. Binder (Amy Rogell-Binder) of Milford, CT, James Theodore “Ted” Binder (Anya Binder) of Longmont, CO, and Paul Binder (Suzanne Binder) of Oakland, CA. Beloved grandfather of 6 children; Alex, Kevin, Andrew, Catherine, Claire and Cole Binder.
Jim was a 1952 Graduate of Dartmouth College and then received a Master’s degree in Business from Columbia Graduate School of Business. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in Washington D.C. in wartime telecommunications. Jim married Catherine Walten of Tenafly, NJ in 1954, a graduate of Barnard College.
Jim’s working career was mostly at Binder Brothers, a family jewelry business in New York City, where he served as treasurer and traveled extensively for them and other firms.
Jim and Catherine retired to Cape Cod in 1995. He served actively in the Dartmouth Clubs of Bergen County NJ and Cape Cod. They attended the Orleans United Methodist Church, Nauset Newcomers, Friday Night Club and formerly were members of Orleans Yacht Club and Hyannis Yacht Club. Traveling extensively and gardening were pleasures they enjoyed.
Graveside services and interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood NJ at a later date.
