Jim was raised in Springfield, MA and proudly graduated from Cathedral High School and Westfield State College. He earned a master’s degree in education from Boston University and finally a Certificate of Graduate Studies from Springfield College. He was employed for 34 years by the Springfield Public School system, working both at the high school and elementary levels. He valued his role as an educator and his dedication to his students impacted the lives of countless young people throughout his career.
Together Jim and Barbara raised a beautiful family in Springfield prior to retiring to Cape Cod. Jim was a loving husband to his wife, brother to his siblings, father to his sons and Pa to his grandchildren.
In his retirement, Jim became the unofficial “ambassador” for the Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Course as well as an amateur horticulturist, cultivating the beautiful landscape at their Brewster home. He enjoyed traveling to Europe and hosting dinner parties with Barbara. You could also find him golfing, boating, reading and spending time with family, especially his cherished grandkids.
Jim can be remembered for his easy-going personality, faith and positivity. A patient, kind, and selfless individual, Jim was a role model to all who had the privilege to know him.
Jim was the son of the late James and Mary (Morrissey) Walsh and devoted husband to Barbara Walsh (Shea) for 56 years. He was the caring father of Brendan and his wife Elizabeth Walsh and Timothy "Tim" and his wife Lisa Walsh. He is also survived by his five incredible grandchildren whom he adored: Tara, James Robert “JR”, Sloane, Emme and Dylan Walsh; brothers Edward and his wife Joanne Walsh and John Walsh and his partner Peggy Warwick; along with several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.
