May 16, 1924 – July 14, 2020
Jean-Luc Hunerwadel age 96, died on July 14, 2020 of natural causes. Born in France on May 16, 1924 he was the third son of Carl and Valeria (Loretan) Hunerwadel. The family was Swiss and in the early years lived in Aarau, canton of Aargau, Switzerland.
Jean-Luc received his higher education at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. In the early 50’s Jean-Luc emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Nahant, MA and worked for General Electric. He loved the ocean and lived near the shore in Nahant, where he took up sailing with great and everlasting enjoyment.
He met and married Jane Moroney of Shrewsbury, MA. They settled in Hingham, MA where they raised their three daughters: Mary-Gayle, Suzanne and Amy.
Jean-Luc retired – after many years of enjoyable work as Head, Systems Branch of the Radiation Physics Department of Panametrics – a company sub-contracting for the Federal Government – in the development of instruments for its Space Program. Following retirement, Jean-Luc and Jane moved to Orleans, Cape Cod, where Jean-Luc purchased a sailboat and sailed Pleasant Bay on every single decent day. Jane joined him frequently on his Pleasant Bay voyages. He so loved the ocean! He also enjoyed being a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
During the course of his final days, he was, while in nursing care, attentively loved and supported by his three daughters and his former wife and best friend.
Jean-Luc was predeceased by his two brothers and leaves several nieces, and nephews and their families in Switzerland.
He leaves his former wife Jane Moroney of Orleans, MA and his daughters and grandchildren: Mary-Gayle and Bob Sweeney and sons Jonathan and Christopher of Woburn, MA; Suzanne Hunerwadel of Ashland, MA; and Amy Schimel and daughter Violet of Brooklyn, NY.
We loved him well!
