Jean S. Norgeot

21 April 1926 to 17 July 2014

Jean “SHEP” Norgeot passed away at home, surrounded by family and friends on Thursday July 17th, 2014 in Orleans Massachusetts where she lived for more than 50 years. Jean lived every day of her life to the fullest, enjoyed the good times, tolerated the bad and shared the ups and downs with close friends and family. Jean was born on the Baxter estate in Brighton Massachusetts on 21st April, 1926 and was raised in Wellesley, MA. She attended Lasell College in Newton MA and graduated from Stevens College in Missouri. After a brief NYC career, in September of 1953 Jean married her soul mate and protector, a true Cape Codder, George P. Norgeot. Jean was a prominent businesswoman in local Real Estate, building lasting relationships within the community, with colleagues, buyers and sellers alike.

Jean is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, 3 grandchildren, her brother Richard, in-laws, many nieces, nephews and extended cousins. The matriarch (some called her the Queen as she shared her attitude and her day of birth with the Queen of England) of a large extended family, who reside locally and across the country, she was the center of a unique, diverse, universe of independent individuals. In her world, family was made of love, not DNA.

Jean was strong willed, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, living the line sung by her favorite performer (Frank Sinatra) “I did it my way”, even to the end. Despite her independence, she was an extraordinary listener, sincerely interested in others. Her heart and home were always open for her kids, grandkids, extended family and friends to come and go, share stories, trials and tribulations, in times of joy and need.

Jean was a generous entertainer, with class and sophistication; she hosted the best family gatherings in town. Her hobbies included creating gorgeous flower gardens, “gunkholing” around pleasant bay and playing bridge with dear friends and new acquaintances alike. Sharing international adventures and cultural exploration was another of her passions, from Anguilla to Kathmandu, Mombasa to Paris, travel with family and friends was an insatiable passion, this she plans to continue in her journeys ahead.

We who have shared in her love and generosity will miss her dearly but relish our good fortune to have shared with her in the celebration of life. Please join us to share your memories of times with Jean on Tuesday July 22 from 5pm to 7 pm at the Nickerson Funeral Home at 77 Eldredge Parkway, Orleans Massachusetts.
