April 30, 1927 – December 25, 2012
John M. Kelly of South Orleans died peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. John was born in Brooklyn, New York to Thomas Vincent and Margaret Lillian (Brennan) Kelly. He was the youngest surviving on four children of that family. He is survived by sister-in-law and 8 nieces and nephews. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon completion of his military service he completed his education at Fordham University with a degree in economics. He then had a career with the Department of Labor – OSHA in Washington, D.C.
Upon retirement from government service, he moved to Cape Cod where he became a loyal parishioner and member of the choir at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans. He volunteered at the St. Joan of Arc’s thrift shop and the council of Aging. He was also a Hospice volunteer. John, who will be remembered for his kind and quiet demeanor, was surely a man of parts. His hobbies included cooking, traveling and, remarkably, flying gliders. Funeral services will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, Orleans on January 2, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the National Veteran’s Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Rd, Orleans, MA 02653 or to Hope Hospice, 756 Attucks Ln, Hyannis, MA 02601.
