On January 15, 2022, Jon Scott Groves, beloved brother and uncle, passed away with family at his side after a year-long courageous battle with various health issues, which eventually led to Lymphoma. Jon was 77 years old; born in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late John (Jack) and Jean Groves of Fox Chapel.
Jon lived in the beautiful seaside town of Provincetown, MA since 1976. He worked as a fisherman and then got into construction by working for his close friend Hal Winard of Winard Construction & Development. Jon had an early morning tradition of starting his work day by parking on MacMillan Wharf to enjoy the view while reading the daily news and working on a crossword puzzle. He loved the quieter months on the Cape and always looked forward to football season. It was a must see on Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. Even though he lived in New England for many years, he still remained a loyal Steelers fan.
Jon was a very kind, thoughtful, and sweet soul. He always remembered his many friends’ and families’ birthdays, anniversaries, or other important dates. Jon even maintained the many friendships he made back in Pittsburgh. He had a big heart and always thought of others. He will certainly be missed by so many who knew and loved him.
Jon leaves behind his beloved sister, Lynne Tudor; four nieces, Nikki Tudor and Margaux Tudor of Harwich, MA, Jacqueline Tudor Krendel (Zabet) and her husband David Krendel of Framingham, MA, Katie Groves Riley and her husband Paul, of Bluffton, SC; great nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Ashley Krendel, Cree and Roux Bisson Donahue, Sullivan and Maura Riley; his sister-in-law Merry Groves, of Bluffton, SC; and his cousins Curt White, of Pittsburgh, PA, Candace Mindigo and Michael Patrick of Los Altos and Fairfax, California; Geoffrey, Ehren and Noah Shenk, of Wellfleet and Truro, MA.
A Celebration of Jon’s Life will be held on Sunday, February 20th, 2022 at 2pm at Governor Bradford, 312 Commercial Street, in Provincetown, MA.
At Jon’s request, his ashes will be spread on the waters off Parris Island, South Carolina, as was his late brother, Michael Groves. Heinekens will be served in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations to Homeless Prevention Council as a way of giving back to the Provincetown community in Jon’s honor.
