Loretta Ann Reiter

Loretta was born in South Bend, Indiana on May 11, 1926 to Agnes (Drajus) and Vincent Brzezinski. She graduated from South Bend Catholic High School in 1943 and from the Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.

Loretta married Bernard Reiter in 1947 and they raised five children in South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana.

While in Indiana, Loretta worked at the South Bend Public Library for 25 years. After retiring from the library in 1991, she moved to Orleans.

Loretta loved Cape Cod. Whether relaxing with a book or walking along the water, the beach was a place of refuge and tranquility for her. No matter how many times she saw it, she never lost her wonder of the ocean. For many years, she volunteered at the St. Joan of Arc thrift shop where she forged wonderful friendships. She loved the theater, movies, reading, dancing, music, going to dinner with friends, traveling to new places, and a good party. She was a real sports enthusiast, cheering for Notre Dame, the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, and the Boston Patriots.

Loretta is predeceased by her beloved husband “Benny”, her sister Rita Brzezinski, and daughter-in-law Janet Reiter. She is survived by her five children: Joseph Reiter and his wife Betsy (Adair) of Woodbury, GA; Ann Dee Reiter of Orleans, MA; Candice Tyler of Mishawaka, IN; Timothy Reiter of South Bend, IN; and Sandra Reiter and her partner Angela Smith of Lexington, VA. She also is survived by six grandchildren: Timothy Tyler, Jessica and Zachery Reiter; Sydney Frey; and Noah and Rebekah Adair; and two great-grandchildren: Joseph and Halle Reiter.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc church, Orleans, MA on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 am, burial will be at a later date in Mishawaka, IN. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be made in Loretta’s name to either: the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, MA 02653; or the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
