Marie Frances (Marrs) Nickerson

Marie was born on June 11, 1933, in Boston, MA, the daughter of Marie Antoinette (Fontaine) Marrs (later Frazier) and Edward Francis Marrs. Marie grew up in Quincy and Hull, MA, and graduated from Hingham High School in 1951. After graduating from high school, she worked at the First National Bank on Milk Street, Boston, MA. Marie married Henry Nickerson in October 1953, and moved to Chatham, MA. Prior to having children, she worked for the Chatham Trust Company and the town tax collector. Later she was a Stanley Home Products dealer, worked for Business Data Management, shucked scallops for her husband and father-in-law, and was a Certified Home Health Aide. She was a member of the West Chatham Christadelphian Ecclesia. Marie was a long-term resident of Chatham, MA before moving to Harwich, MA.

Marie was a loving, dedicated mother to her children and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her six children Eileen (Nickerson) and Stephen Furlong of Harwich, MA, Donna (Nickerson) and Sidney Snow of Orleans, MA, Betty (Nickerson) and Gerald Markwith of Chester, VA, Dorothy (Nickerson) and Stephen Harne of Rangeley, ME, James and Wendy (Hyde) Nickerson of Harwich, MA, and Jane (Nickerson) and Jack Garvey of Greenbrier, AR; her former husband Henry Nickerson of Chatham, MA; and her brother George Frazier of Hull, MA.

Marie is also survived by sixteen grandchildren Erika Furlong, Gregory Furlong, Jason Person, Katie Snow, Joshua Markwith, Aaron Markwith, Jessica (Markwith) Turner, Samantha Markwith, Heather Harne, Brianna (Nickerson) Powell, Ciarra Nickerson, Dalton Nickerson, Elijah Nickerson, Cassandra Garvey, Leah (Garvey) Bryan, and Sarah (Garvey) Stokes; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie is predeceased by her infant son Henry Willis Nickerson, Jr., her parents, and siblings Helen Geraldine (Marrs) Green of TX, Rose Mary (Marrs) Sullivan of MA, Eileen (Marrs) Tate of VA, and John Frazier of CA.

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024 a Calling Hour will be held from 10 - 11 AM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA followed by a Funeral Service in her honor beginning at 11 AM. A private family burial will follow.
