Marjorie was born on September 5,1921 to Earl and Beulah (Newcomb) Petheram in rural Franklin County, Iowa. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1938. She taught in a rural school in Franklin County for two years before attending college at the University of Iowa. She graduated in 1944 with a major in general sciences. She worked at three different facilities in the Chicago area as a scientific research assistant. She spent two years with the Peace Corp in Malawi, East Africa. After returning the the United States she had three jobs in the areas of education, international understanding and relationships, and conservation. She was also a world traveler.
Marjorie married Francis T. Worrell on September 3, 1972. Together they enjoyed traveling, hiking, and being in nature. She loved reading, music and folk dancing. She was an active parish member and sang in several church choirs.
Left to cherish her memory are her stepsons and their wives: Bill (Anne) Worrell and Ned (Martha) Worrell; grandchildren: Louisa, Lynn, Evan, and Suzanne; nephews: David (Jan) Petheram, Donald (Alice) Greimann, Dale (Peggy) Greimann; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and his wife Gene (Marion) Petheram, her sister and her husband Burnice (Milo) Greimann; nieces, Marcia Petheram and Lois Mayne and nephew, Edward Greimann.
A memorial service will be held at First Parish Brewster Unitarian Universalist Church on May 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Iowa.
Memorial donations to the Massachusetts Nature Conservancy or to First Parish Brewster Unitarian Universalist in her memory are welcome.
