Mary Beth was born on July 2, 1967 to the late Michael and Mary Shumway in Springfield, MA. She attended Holy Name School and Roger L Putnam Vocational Technical Academy. Later she became a Certified Nursing Assistant and provided warm, nurturing care to the elderly on Cape Cod who quickly grew to love her. Mary Beth was also known for her hard work as a landscaper, and her green thumb left her family amazed! Mary Beth could bring what appeared to be a plant that was ready for the compost pile to a flourishing thing of beauty.
Mary Beth loved her children, James and Lauren Kemple, fiercely and they loved her dearly. But her favorite days were spent with her grandchildren who filled her playful heart with pure joy. They could often be found building forts together, taking walks for ice cream, making silly movies and riding the waves on boogie boards.
In January, Mary Beth became the primary caregiver to her father. They became the best of buddies, and thick as thieves. It was her loving, patient care that allowed her father to stay in his home until he passed, a gift so greatly appreciated by her siblings that there simply aren’t words.
Mary Beth is predeceased by her son James Kemple, and her parents. She is survived by her loving daughter and best friend, Lauren Kemple, Lauren’s partner Quentin Antoine, and her grandchildren Ava Clifford and Quentin Antoine Jr., as well as her siblings Kara Risk, Lisa Jaycox, Michael Shumway, AnneMarie Griffin, and Mark Shumway.
Those who would like to celebrate Mary Beth’s life are welcome to attend visiting hours held at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA on November 4, 2022 from 10-11am.
