OBITUARY
Michael H. Cole
February 21, 1947 – April 9, 2013
EASTHAM - Michael H. Cole, 66, of N. Eastham, MA died on April 9, 2013, after a sudden and very brief illness. He was born on Feb. 21, 1947, in West Hartford and was the son of Everett H. & Jean H. Cole. Michael attended Cornell University and graduated in 1970 with a Master’s Degree in Engineering. He joined Cape Associates in 1972 and became President in 1985 after taking over from his father-in-law, Lester F. Langhans, Jr. He retired on January 1, 2013, after selling the business to his three children.
Michael was very active in various local committees and the Eastham United Methodist Church over the years. The betterment of his community was very important to him. He was not only a respected businessman, but he took great pride in mentoring employees. One of Cape Associates’ annual awards, The Michael H. Cole Mentor Award was presented to him and named after him at the election of his fellow employees. But as important as all the above were to him, he was most proud to be the parent of his three children and a devoted husband to his beloved wife. Nothing could ever surpass the love, concern and devotion he had to his wife and children. He always reported that he was the luckiest man in the whole world.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Langhans), his children Lindsay Cole, Matthew Cole, (and wife Katie), and Casey Cole (and her fiancée, Ashley), his grandchildren Olivia Rose Richards and Hudson Foy Cole, by his sister Linda Orlowski of Colebrook, CT, his brother David Cole of Unionville, CT, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Cole.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael H. Cole Charitable Giving Foundation, P.O. Box 1858, N. Eastham , MA 02651.
Calling hours will be Saturday, April 13th, 1pm-4pm at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans.
Funeral will be Sunday, April 14th at 1pm in the auditorium at Nauset Regional High School in Eastham.
Burial will be private.

Dear Jeanne and members of Michael's family.
As you know we were in Florida until mid April and were not aware of your tragic loss until you checked on Mike's cellphone and got my message about the Advocates, an organization that Mike help us estabish almost three years ago.
In the short time since we became friends we cherished both your company and had the greatest respect for Mike's generous heart in providing scholarships to financially needy students from the Cape who were passionate about continuing their education at a community college.
We were both very sad, Jeanne, when we recieved the horrific news in your email yesterday.
We offer our prayers and support knowing you lost a loving partner, we lost a dear friend and the Advocates lost a model and generous partner in the mission we will continee in his memory. We look forward to seeing you soon, Jeanne.

Jeanne, Lindsay, Matt and Casey--Please know that you continue to be in our prayers. We loved Mike too.
"When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from their troubles. The Lord is near to the broken hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all." Psalm 34: 17-19.

I was amazed at the stories that people told as they came through the line - what a testament to Mike. He was such a great listener and he never missed a thing. The pain will never go away but it will get easier - time does have a way of healing. God worked through Michael to change lives - what a gift, what a life, and as I've read somewhere -- what a ride....Love you Jeanne, Matt, Lindsay, Casey, Mom and Linda (the best sister he could have ever asked for). Michael, more than anyone I have ever known, could have been who Maya Angelou was thinking of when she wrote, "I've learned that people may forget what you said or what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Carol and I will miss Michael and never forget how special he always made us feel. We send our love to the entire Cole family.
