Daughter of the late Clara & Bernard McCloy, widow of the late Rev. William E. Ridgeway – former rector of St. George’s Church, Newburgh, NY - and St. Peter’s Church, Peekskill, NY.
A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, State University NY at New Paltz, NY and New York University, NYC. Spent years working with children.
Retired to North Eastham, MA in 1981 after 16 years in the Newburgh, NY school system. Previous teaching occurred in North Carolina, California, and Long Island, NY. She especially enjoyed her voluntary work at Eastham Elementary and developing trips for the fourth grades to the museums of Eastham.
Member of Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary, Eastham Historical Society, Eastham Forum, Church of the Holy Spirit – where she was a longtime choir member, bible study student, prayer groups, Episcopal Church Women member, Peace & Justice committee activist, Adult Education member, as well as duties as lector & Eucharistic Minister. In her Newburgh years, she joined her husband in working with inner city “children”, was an early pioneer in Head-Start of Newburgh, and helped develop a Magnet School at St. Georges Church, Newburgh.
Mrs. Ridgeway is survived by three children; Anne Thomas, Mark & his wife Teresa, and Brian. Six grandchildren – Rebecca, Carrie, Matthew, Brett, Rachael and Veronica; 6 great grandchildren – Jonathan, Emily, Eva, Chloe, Caitlyn & Julia .
Memorial service will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit on Friday June 28th at 3 PM. Miriam’s request is of no flowers., however memorials should be directed to Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, MA Music Choir Fund or the Rev. Wm Ridgeway Fund, St. Georges Church, Newburgh, NY, 105 Grand Street.
