Nicholas Motlowitz

Nicholas “Nick” Motlowitz, 103, of Orleans, MA died peacefully at home, Monday, October 26, 2026, surrounded by loving family and his exceptional caretakers. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maureeen and Fred Pycko of Harwich, MA; daughter Marilyn O’Neill of Rocky Hill, CT; five granddaughters: Jennifer, Krystina, Natalie, Melanie and Michelle; four great-granddaughters, and two great grandsons. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife “Joan” of 69 years.

Born in 1923, Nick was raised in East Longmeadow, MA. Upon graduation from Technical High School, Springfield MA, he went on to graduate Indiana Tech, and attended Midshipman School, Accelerated Officer Training at Purdue University. He served his country during WWII in the South Pacific on multiple islands in the combat aircraft service unit as a lieutenant.

He was a designer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Hartford CT for over 35 plus years and was highly regarded for his expertise in the workings of the gearbox. He lived in Springfield MA until 1986, at which time he and his wife moved to Orleans, MA.

He viewed this earth with a sense of curiosity and awe, maintained his appreciation of the incredible beauty and power of nature until his last days, and remained fascinated by the world that exists just beyond our reach. He especially marveled at the colors and unique characteristics of flowers. He loved music, the outdoors, reading, watching CNN, a well-made Manhattan, word jumbles and learning new things. He especially loved a house full of family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldridge Park Way, Orleans on Thursday, October 29, 2026 from 2 to 4pm followed by his funeral services at 4pm. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 1PM.
