Patricia Louise White, 77, of Orleans, MA, died unexpectedly on July 6, 2016, following complications from emergency surgery. A loving partner, stepmother, and grandmother, Pat was also a crackerjack copywriter and editor, as well as an esteemed member of the astrological community.
Born in Worcester, MA, Pat was educated at Wellesley College and spent the early years of her career working in advertising in New York City. Later she moved to Cape Cod where she helped found Astrolabe, which today is one of the leading astrological software companies in the world.
Though Pat never married, she had two long-term relationships in her life. The first was with fellow astrologer and Astrolabe founder, Robert Hand. For the last 19 years, Pat was in a relationship with Alan Dodge, a respected architect on Cape Cod. With both Rob and Alan, Pat traveled to every corner of the globe.
Eternally youthful, Pat was especially passionate about politics and health. She was kind, warm-hearted, and generous - a champion of the underdog. Smart and confident, Pat was also extremely creative; her present-wrapping and handmade cards were legendary.
In addition to Alan, Pat leaves behind Justine Hand, Chad Updyke, and their children, Oliver and Solvi; also, Owen Dodge, Laura Senes, and their daughter, Anya; and her extended “family” at Astrolabe. Contributions in Pat’s memory may be made to the Lower Cape Outreach Council, to progressive movements such as moveon.org, or to NPR or PBS, of which she was a great fan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, from 2-4pm at the Odd Fellows Hall in Orleans, MA. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
