Richard Vought—known to all as Rick—grew up in many cities throughout Connecticut, the son of Reverend Gordon and Marilyn Vought. One thing Rick knew for sure from his “growing up” years – he loved playing drum set! Following high school, he attended Gordon College as a percussion performance major and, long after graduation, his love of music-making on those drums never waned. Rick moved to the Community of Jesus on Cape Cod in 1987 where he began working for Paraclete Press. It was not long before he met Ruth Moore, who would soon become his wife: Rick knew he wanted to marry her from the moment he met her!
Rick’s gregarious personality came to the fore as he spent time working as a radio DJ for WFCC as well as securing advertising spots for radio programs. Throughout those years, he was part of a jazz group that played for all kinds of occasions, and he lent his percussion skills to a fun musical group known as the “Rock Harbor Flat Boys.”
As time went on, Rick felt a calling to the ministry and graduated the top of his class from Gordon Conwell Seminary with a Master of Divinity, all the while finding his great joy and fulfillment as an active and fun-loving husband, and father of four.
Rick was loved by many for his sense of humor and genuine affection for everyone he encountered. He had a wonderful and God-given ability to listen to a person talk about most anything, offering a listening ear and heart that bore no judgement and offered compassion and love. He continued in ministry while also partnering with Ruth to run the family business, Moore Security and Services.
In his most recent years, while battling his illness, Rick’s love and passion for Christ was proclaimed through his call to the ministry as he spoke to all about his desire for revival and burden to pray for our country.
Rick is predeceased by his mother, Marilyn and survived by his father Gordon, his brother Hans, Ruth, his wife of 34 years, Br. Jesse, James (Krista), Ben, Sr. Gloria, and granddaughter, Winter Grace.
A service of celebration for Rick's life will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration on Tuesday, October 14th, at 10:00 am, with a service of interment at Orleans Cemetery following the service.
Memorial donations can be made to Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans, MA.
