Richard "Dick" Woodland of Orleans, passed away November 26th at the age of 93 at Cape Cod Hospital due to a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Easton) who predeceased him in 2018 and was also predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Bennett Woodland, his eight siblings and his two daughters, Janet and Jennifer. He is survived by his two sons, Michael and Gary, both of Orleans and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dick attended Orleans High School and graduated from Acalanes High School in California. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War and went on to be employed by New England Telephone, now Verizon, for 28 years. For 45 years, he owned and operated the charter fishing boat Madame B out of Rock Harbor, Orleans and was a past president and lifetime member of the Cape Cod Charter Boat Association. Dick was the original organizer of the Rock Harbor Special Olympics Fishing Event which was looked forward to every summer by the athletes and boat captains alike. Once his days on the water were behind him, he built and repaired fishing rods for many years. An avid bow hunter, he enjoyed several deer hunting trips to New Jersey.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 from 4-6 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
