Robert Frazier Lowe, Jr. of Brewster, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27 at the age of 86 surrounded by close relatives and his former wife Elizabeth Delima of South Orleans, Ma.
“Bobby” was born in Englewood, N.J., the first son of Eloise Lowe and Robert F. Lowe Sr.
and is survived by his younger brothers Gary, Randy, and Johnny Lowe.
When the US entered WWII, Bobby moved with his parents to Los Angeles where his father worked in aviation production for the war effort. After the war, the family of
three returned to Englewood where Bobby completed his secondary education at Dwight Morrow High School. It was at Dwight Morrow that Bobby began his life-long obsession with distance running winning two New Jersey high school cross-country State Championships and doing the same on the track by winning the State mile title in his senior year.
In 1957, he entered Brown University where he earned a degree in Sociology and continued his successful career in long distance running, including wins at the IC4A
Championships his Junior year in both the 3 mile and the 3,000 meter steeple chase with just a 20 minute rest between races. In 1959, while still at Brown, Bobby and his former
wife, Elizabeth, had their first son, Robin Lowe. Despite the rigors of parenthood, the young parents both graduated from Brown where he served as president of the class of 1961 for the rest of his life. Bobby’s love for Brown University cultivated a life-long dedication to fund raising for development of the track program at Brown.
In 1961, Bobby returned to Englewood to raise a family, earn an MBA from New York University, and begin a career spanning banking at Irving Trust, investment banking with Paine Webber and Prudential Securities, founding and managing a fundraising consultancy that raised funds for the East New York Development Fund and the Kennedy Collective in Conneticut to name a few. In 1965, Elizabeth and Bobby had their second son,
Courtney Lowe, and in 1988 Bobby had a third son, Alex, with his second wife Christa Corwin.
Starting in the late 50’s, Bobby began spending his summers in Cape Cod where he and his young family eventually became summer regulars at the house of his in-laws Betty & Harvard Statistician William Cochran.
As a young college athlete, Bobby trained regularly running barefoot in the sand at Nauset Beach and working at Howard Johnsons in Orleans. Motivated by his competitive spirit and his love for the water, Bobby took up sailing and often raced in the regattas on Pleasant Bay.
In 2004, Bobby left Englewood to retire in Truro where he continued to enjoy sailing out of Provincetown and befriending many of the established artists who populate the outer Cape. Contributing to and taking responsibility for his community has always been an imperative for Bobby, and he often gave hiking tours of the WWII era Camp Wellfleet, and volunteered time to historic restoration projects in Truro.
Several years ago, Bobby visited and fell in love with San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
eventually splitting his time between San Miguel and Cape Cod. In 2021, he bought
a home in San Miguel’s artist district and developed long lasting relationships with many residents and part-timers. Bobby liked nothing more than walking to the center of San Miguel for lunch and taking in movies, concerts, playing tennis, and going to art exhibitions. Bobby had always been a self-taught home renovator to the point of obsession and his home in San Miguel became the crescendo in a history of home improvement projects for which he was forever proud.
Bobby Lowe is survived by his afore mentioned three brothers and three sons as well as the mother of his sons, Elizabeth Delima and Christa Corwin, many cousins, including his
cousin and dear friend Sherry Cullimore, her son Blake Cullimore, his granddaughters Elizabeth Lowe and Caitlyn Lowe, grandson Jackson Lowe, and great grandchild
Emerson Lowe.
The Lowe family is planning a Memorial Service to take place in Cape Cod in late Spring,
an announcement and invitations will be forthcoming.
