Born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 9, 1950, Bob was the son of David Harris Ward and Lucille Weikel Ward, both of whom predeceased him.
Growing up in Paoli, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia, Bob immersed himself in his early ancestral family history, and throughout his life was an avid student of history as well as genealogy. He completed the Boston University Genealogy Research Program and spent many happy hours at the New England Genealogical Library, further exploring family history. Time spent in libraries was his greatest pastime and pleasure. One of his greatest joys was his involvement with the 15th MA Volunteer Infantry Regiment, a living history group portraying the American Civil War, a regiment his great, great grandfather led and whose monument to his heroism resides at Gettysburg. He enjoyed many happy times with this wonderful group of friends who shared his love of history. Additionally, his great interest in genealogy led him to become an active member of the Cape Cod Genealogy Society, for which he served two years as President.
Always a kind, gentle man who found meaning in college with the Bahá'í Faith. Bob’s faith guided him throughout his life, offering solace and peace during trying times as well as a fellowship with the Bahá'í community on Cape Cod and in Pennsylvania. Their belief in universal inclusivity, the oneness of religion, and equality for all, formed the framework for his life. He loved the many wonderful friends he made through the Bahá'í Faith community, many of whom shared his last hours.
Additionally, Bob was a member of the New England Genealogical Society, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association, the Welcome Society of Philadelphia, and the Worcester Historical Society.
Always cherishing the time spent with family, Bob was a much loved uncle who gave endless time to Jeff and Kristin. He is survived by his sister, Carol Ward Marsh, his nephew, Jeffrey Marsh and wife Leah, his niece, Kristin Marsh, as well as great nephews Michael Catalfano, William Catalfano, Dylan and Nathaniel Marsh, and niece, Hailey Catalfano. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Warren Marsh.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, August 8th at ten o’clock at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, followed by a funeral service at eleven o'clock.
The burial will take place on Tuesday, August 11th at Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge, PA.
