She was born on August 23, 1956 in Rye, NY and went to high school at Clarkstown South High in West Nyack, NY where she met the love of her life, Zachary Heid, her husband of 38 years.
After a few moves between Kansas, New York and New Hampshire, Sharon & Zack relocated to Cape Cod and planted their roots with their growing family 28 years ago.
Anyone who has ever met Sharon knows she was an extremely strong-willed, tough woman with extraordinary kindness and wisdom that she shared with everyone who entered her life. She somehow was always able to say the right things at the right time, and people always flocked to her as an obvious go-to for advice and thoughts. She always made everyone feel comfortable and welcome – a literal hostess with the mostess.
After her diagnosis, she never used cancer as an excuse or crutch, rather as her steam to plow ahead and meet major life milestones she always had dreamed of: high school graduations, college graduations, weddings, and her most motivating: the birth of her grandchildren. Her family was her life, and these moments fueled her undeniable courage and strength as she faced her disease head on. She was not afraid to have fun, or to laugh, or even to sing and dance her way through any occasion. She was seemingly fearless, her smile undoubtedly contagious, and her love unconditional.
Sharon passed away in her home surrounded by her family, just as the sun came out after a morning of rain, thunder and lightning.
She is survived by her loving husband Zachary Heid, her 4 children: Jeremiah Heid and his wife Alanna, Tara Ward and her husband Kyle, Deirdre Heid and Julia Heid, by her mother Louise Harnett, her brother Tom Harnett and her sister Susan Harnett, by her grandchildren Brooke and Dylan Ward and Alabama and Riley Lightsey, by her granddogs and grandcat, Rico, Roxy, Cooper and Liberty, and by her beloved family at Stop & Shop.
Her memorial visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans: 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA 02653 on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 5-8p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Dennis, 434 Route 134, Suite D-3, South Dennis, MA, 02660. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
