Dear Joan and Family - Mike and I send you our deepest condolences on Sherm's death.  He was a colleague and friend to me for 30+ years, and as two Navy men with a love of history, he and Mike shared an appreciation for many books in common.

Sherm gave so much to his beloved Orleans, and he will be deeply missed and always remembered for his intelligence, his thoughtfulness, and his extraordinary ability to "see the big picture" so far ahead that the rest of us had to really struggle to catch up!
