Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, the daughter of Henrietta and Thomas King and youngest of four sisters, Shirley went on to graduate from Cortland State Teachers College. She taught 3rd and 4th grade in the Bedford, NY school district for 20 years.
After retiring to Cape Cod, Shirley explored her passions for gardening, quilting, knitting, golf and bridge, dominated at Upwords and Scrabble games and loved to frequent the beach. She became a member of the Brewster Bag Ladies and volunteered extensively with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
In a true testament to her matriarchal presence, Shirley is survived by an extensive loving family including: her husband, John; three children: Cindy (John), Jay (Sharon) and Richard (Suzanne); seven grandchildren: Rebecca (Pablo), Pamela Kate (David), Molly, Thomas, Meghan, Caitlyn, and Brendan; three great-grandchildren: Penelope, Leonardo and Paloma; as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass and burial will take place at a later date.
