Steven Joseph Tenczar Jr.

Born August 14, 1946, to Steven Joseph Tenczar, Sr. and Helen Koncinsky Tenczar of Jewett City, Connecticut, Steve developed a formidable work ethic at a young age working early mornings on his grandparents’ farm and later at First National Supermarkets in Griswold, Connecticut. Steve graduated from Griswold High School, served in the Connecticut National Guard, and went on to earn a degree from Ward Technical Institute at the University of Hartford.

Steve began his career at IBM’s Hartford office as a computer engineer before being promoted into sales, where he was a consistent top-performing representative. His deep mainframe expertise was recognized when he became the first IBM System z Certified Account Executive in North America; a distinction earned through a rigorous program and presentation before an IBM review board. He earned the respect of customers and colleagues alike through his deep knowledge, strong work ethic, and joy for building lasting relationships. After retiring from IBM following 30 years of service, he continued working with IBM business partners for another 15 years.

Steve and his wife of 57 years, Margaret “Peggy” Bernier Tenczar, moved full-time to Eastham 14 years ago after living, and raising their family, in Marlborough for 40 years. Never one to slow down, even in retirement, Steve became deeply involved in his community. He served as Commodore of the Orleans Yacht Club from 2019 through 2021, helping guide the club through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of St. Joan of Arc, Council 3384, where he was a 4th degree knight, he served hundreds of Sunday pancake breakfasts, raising thousands of dollars for local charities.

Steve and Peggy, along with their lifelong friends Millie and Ron Sokolowski, traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, fulfilling Steve’s sense of adventure.

Above all, he cherished time with family and friends—especially tinkering with and driving his Model A around town with his grandsons and granddaughter.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Peggy, of Eastham; his daughter, Jennifer Tenczar Piacitelli, her husband Robert, and their daughter Gabriella, of Boston; and his son, Benjamin Tenczar, his wife Danielle, and their sons Benjamin and Harrison, of Sturbridge.

Known for his kindness, quick wit, and memorable one-liners, Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 4th between 1-4PM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 5th at 11AM at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 61 Canal Rd., Orleans, MA.
