Walter Stephen, known as Steve to his family and Wally to his numerous friends, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2026. A native Cape Codder, he was born to his loving parents, Walter and Mary Fyler on December 18, 1984.
Steve graduated from Nauset High School where he developed wonderful lifelong friends who will cherish their lasting memories of times spent together.
From a young age, he developed a love of the outdoors which included camping, boating, fishing, swimming, going to the beach, and driving out to the Nauset Outer Beach. From the time he could walk, he spent the majority of his days playing outside. In recent years, he made frequent trips to Maine to spend time with his parents at their lake-side cabin. Steve and his father spent many hours fishing together where Steve came back with bragging rights.
Perogies, chicken cordon bleu, sausage and peppers, macaroni salad, and breakfasts were many of his favorite home-cooked meals made by his mom. Steve and his mom shared a love of food that was a strong bond between them.
Steve was a talented carpenter who learned his trade by working side by side with his dad, a man he looked up to and admired. From the time he could hold a hammer, Steve went out to ”work” every day, grabbing his tool box and wearing a toolbelt. His younger brother Zach accompanied him as they proceeded to work on various backyard projects. Steve never missed an episode of This Old House and was especially inspired by Norm Abrams.
For twenty years, Steve worked with his dad at Home Carpentry. After his dad’s retirement, Steve went on to run his own business where he continued with his craft. Carpentry was more than just a job for Steve, it was his passion. Steve’s handcrafted pieces are cherished by family and friends who received them. They were more than gifts; they are lasting reminders of his generosity, skill and love.
Steve will be extremely missed by his parents, Walter and Mary, of Brewster, MA and his younger brother, Zach of Driggs, ID, his best friend growing up. His extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins will miss Steve tremendously. He leaves behind a large group of friends who will miss his sense of fun and ability to make people laugh. His sense of humor was well known by all. His kindness, loyalty, and laughter touched countless lives.
The family extends special thanks to Justin Reis.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Steve’s memory, may be directed to your favorite charity.
