OBITUARY

William "Jeff" Jeffry Spencer

September 4, 1950July 13, 2020

William Jeffry “Jeff” Spencer Orleans— Jeff‘s battle with cancer ended on July 13, 2020, which was fitting as 13 was his lucky number. He was 69 years old.

He leaves behind his partner Pam Banas of Orleans; his daughter Jenata Spencer of Arlington, Virginia; sister in law, Joan Keene of Weymouth; sister, Carol Edmunds of Richmont, Texas; sister, Priscilla Drollett( Frank) of Plymouth; and brother, Glenn Spencer (Peggy) of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William G and Gladys J. Spencer, his brother, Randy Keene; and his sister, Phyllis McCarthy.

Jeff was a gentle soul who nurtured animals and plants. He loved bowling, bad puns, brussels sprouts, teaching the uninitiated to play cribbage, and was an inveterate fixer of broken things. He was a Vietnam Veteran, a graduate of South Shore Regional Technical High School, and attended Cape Cod Community College, where he first developed his passion for theater. Over the last 40 years he contributed his talents both on and off the stage to dozens of productions as an actor, director, set designer and builder, and light designer and operator. In that time, he performed at many local theaters, including Barnstable Comedy Club, Cape Cod Community College, Cape Cod Theater Company, WHAT, Provincetown Theater, Payomet, and the Chatham Drama Guild, where he was also a member of the Board of Directors for many years. His contributions to the Cape Cod theater community were significant and will be missed.

A memorial gathering will be held in the near future.

Memorial donations may be made in Jeff’s name to the Chatham Drama Guild, P.O. Box 92, Chatham, MA 02633. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.

I have many fond memories of Jeff. He was a fantastic actor, a terrific director, a hard worker. He volunteered many, many hours of his expertise in theaters on Cape Cod -- lighting shows, building sets, doing anything he could to get a show up and running. He was generous to friends who needed his help. He took pride in his gardens and loved nothing more than to be digging and planting and beautifying his surroundings. He was an accomplished chef, taking pride in the special dishes he prepared for family and friends. He could be witty, charming, very intelligent. He loved math problems. He enjoyed word games and crossword puzzles. His close friends knew him to be extremely loyal. He took joy in times spent with his daughter, Jena. They had their own special language, memories and games. I am sad he was ill in his last months on earth, but trust that he's now out of pain and anguish. I send my condolences to his loved ones. He's in my prayers.
