William “Whit” Whittemore Scott, Jr., 85 of Brewster, MA passed on March 14th, 2014. Born in Boston on June 1st, 1928. Whit was a lifelong resident of Orleans and is survived by his wife Virginia Meads Scott of Brewster. In addition to his wife he leaves behind his daughter Marsha Eldredge of Chatham, MA and sons Peter McCray of Ashville, NC and Jeffrey Scott of South Orleans MA. Whit has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Whit was predeceased by his wife of 35 years June L. Scott of Orleans, MA and 3 sons: Mark McCray, William (Chip) W. Scott III and his baby son Christopher J. Scott.
Whit was educated at The Choate School in Wallingford, CT graduating in 1946. After graduating he moved to the Cape for life. Having been a lobsterman and fisherman in the 1950’s, he was a lover of nature and all things outdoors. He was a passionate hunter of waterfowl and upland game. Two of his favorite pastimes were to scratch quahogs and to sit in a duck blind over a set of decoys (the more blustery the weather the better). He was an animal lover and over the course of his life had rescued many dogs large and small. After a long career on the water he spent the remainder of his life as a carpenter building new homes and involved with all types of home improvement. Whit was adored by all his friends and customers.
The later portion of his life was spent with wife Virginia; they were true loves and companions. He was so grateful for their meeting later in life. Whit will be missed by all who had crossed paths with him.
In lieu of flowers, Whit wanted donations to be made to the Animal Rescue League of Brewster, 3981 Main St. (Rt.6A) Brewster, MA 02631.
A private family service will be held on his birthday in June.
