

Albert De Benedet 87, who passed away on Friday April 19th 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday April 29th 1pm at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. 600 S. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL. Mr. De Benedet was born on March 12, 1926 in Fort Frances Ontario Canada to his father Joseph De Benedet and mother Josephine. Albert was the middle child and grew up with two sisters. Albert grew up in Fort Frances, Ontario Canada and graduated Fort Frances High School. Albert enjoyed playing shinny (street hockey) in the winter and building model airplanes. After high school he enjoyed being a radio announcer. Albert also spent some time working on a farm near Calgary Alberta Canada. In his mid 20’s he started working on the Canadian Pacific railroad in Alberta, Canada. He became a US citizen in 1957 and eventually moved to Los Angeles California to work on the Southern Pacific railroad for 34yrs as a switchman until he retired in 1987. Albert enjoyed going to the beach, traveling and dancing at the Palladium in Hollywood California on the Lawrence Welk Show where he would meet his wife Theresa in 1963, they married a few months later. Albert and Theresa had one child together, Michael, and enjoyed taking yearly family vacations. Albert enjoyed taking his son on river rafting trips along the Colorado River, drag racing events, and Dodger games. Albert had taken a special interest in going to the airport to watch his son learn to fly and at times go flying with him. In August of 2012 Albert and his wife moved to Ormond Beach, Florida to be closer to their son, daughter in-law and three grandchildren. Albert was a very skilled craftsman from building a room addition to woodworking cabinetry around the home he was always thought of as being very handy. Albert is survived by his sisters Evelyn Wright and Sharon Conniff, son Michael, daughter-in-law Laura, grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, and Anthony, daughter Trudy Scholz, son-in-law Joseph, grandchildren Renae Paul (Andy), Joseph A. Scholz, great grandchildren Jordan and Jasmine Koepp, and Cameo and Joseph L. Scholz, sister-in-law Claire Courtney and brother-in-law Joe James. He was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa, grandchild Billie Jo Scholz, and his parents. He was a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.
