

On Friday morning, June 22, 2013, Arthur A. Samuels was called from earth to eternity. He took flight early in the morning from a journey that he called a “good life” to a life that knows no end. Arthur was born in Harlem, New York, to Daisy and Arthur Samuels. He was the eldest of four children – all who preceded him in death. He married Delcena M. Martin in June 1950. To that union was born Darryl and Kendall Samuels. Delcena and Arthur’s union lasted sixty three years. Arthur studied psychiatric nursing and interned at the Bronx Psychiatric Hospital. He served with honor a term of two years in the United States Armed Service during World War II. He continued to serve his country as an employee of the United States Postal Service for forty-one years. Arthur was a voracious reader, an ingenious humorist, accomplished cellist, avid swimmer, master chess player, and a man of great spiritual insight and discipline who started each day with devotions and reflections on biblical passages, scriptural themes, and the human condition. Arthur leaves to celebrate his life – Delcena (devoted wife and companion for sixty-three years), two sons – Darryl (Laura) and Kendall Samuels (Diana), numerous grand’s Corri(Kim), Cristal, Candi, Courtney, Samantha, Mickey, Rasheda, Albert R, and Kendall Jr. great-grands, Korri, Kimorri, Khloe, nieces Dr. Yvette Mardis-Samuels(Bob), Ida Martin- Payne (Renard) Cheryl Samuels nephews; Buddy Samuels, Bruce Samuels, Brisco Samuels Trevor Mardis, Justin Samuels. Three cousins, Terrence Simmons, Ruth Castor, Dolly Mclean, and a host of traveling companions –The Burden’s, Force’s, Thomas’ and Orzach’s.
