With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara C. Cowern, age 89, of Ormond Beach, Florida, who passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026. She was the second of three daughters, born on April 12, 1937 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, to Reverend Willie and Zola Hubbard.
Bobbi was defined by her devotion to her family, faith through music, friends, work, and travel. She began her dedication to teaching as a student at Carson-Newman University and later completed her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education at Daytona Beach State College. Subsequently she became a very committed elementary school teacher for nearly 20 years before pursuing a career in the life insurance industry.
A lifelong lover of music, Bobbi sang alto in her church choir at First Baptist Church Daytona Beach for over 45 years. She also played handbells and took great honor in performing in every church music special she could, including singing for her Bible Study group.
Bobbi shared her passion for travel with her husband, children, and grandchildren, exploring many countries and learning about different cultures and history. Her adventures as a world traveler took her to Africa, Central and South America, Australia and throughout Europe.
As a devoted mother, she leaves behind Carole Montgomery (Alan) and Robin Jackson (Ronnie). Bobbi adored her grandchildren and included each one in her travels. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Lauren Braddock (Benjamin Alcorn) Andrew Braddock (Cez Erika Generoso), Connor Montgomery (Weonkyung), and Brian Montgomery (Katie Lesser), and her great-grandson, Callum Ryan Generoso Braddock.
She was preceded in death by a wonderful husband she adored Donald Cowern, and her daughter Cindy Trupo.
Bobbi leaves behind a powerful legacy of independence and strength. By demonstrating how to face life's challenges with true resilience, she remains a source of inspiration for her children and grandchildren.
