Gehlert was an aesthetic visionary, responsible for reimagining some of the most iconic Art Deco and Victorian era building facades and interiors in the greater Daytona Beach area. For many years he worked alongside his father, Craig Gehlert Sr., with brothers Ty and Tris in the family’s architectural firm, and after, continued to play an integral role in efforts to redesign and revitalize numerous buildings along Granada Boulevard including the Lohman Funeral Home and restaurants Club 31, Rose Villa and Alexander’s.
A thoughtful and introspective man, Tor employed a quietly intellectual sense of humor, often musing over world happenings while sipping his favorite Tia Maria and coffee. He was also known to transform into a formidable world aggressor during the hours-long games of Risk he loved to play with friends.
Tor is survived by his son Trey (Craig Gehlert III,) and godson James Sanford, as well as his brothers Ty and Tris and his sister Tam. Joining in the family’s loss are a host of grateful clients and many friends who considered him a member of their own extended families.
In lieu of services, the family simply asks that those who cared for Tor take a moment to remember the legacies of his discerning wit and extreme talent.
