Donna Marlene (Hess) Missal, 89, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, peacefully passed away October 25, 2021.
Born April 2, 1932, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of William Hess and Vivian Moen. She was the loving wife of Bernard J. Missal until his passing in 2009. They were married for 58 years. Donna graduated from Bowen High School, Chicago, with the class of 1949. She earned her bachelor's degree from DePaul University and pursued her Master's Degree in communication disorders at Governor State University. She started working for the Illinois Public Schools as a speech pathologist about 1965. She rotated between numerous district grade schools including Bryant School in Harvey, Emerson, and others. In 1979 Donna moved to Wilbur by the Sea where she continued her work with the Volusia County School District as a speech pathologist. The school district liked her job performance so much they later made her an Administrator of Speech Language Clinicians until her retirement in 1994. She enjoyed that work most and it did result in the maximum amount of kids benefitting from her work. While doing all of this she also attended many aerobics classes. She liked them so much she started teaching that too. She taught community aerobics classes for many years.
Donna attended the Daytona Beach Christian Drive-In Church and was a member of the Escapees R.V. Club. She enjoyed traveling in her motor home and going on cruises with her husband, Bernard. Donna loved living near the beach, many times she walked up and down the beach with her loving husband and their two dogs (Sam and Little Girl). They made that walk so often that more than once when the dogs got out of the fenced yard, they would walk down and up the beach just like Donna and Bernie were with them. She loved the USA, the 4th of July, and fireworks. She cherished time spent time with her grandchildren, and she LOVED to visit a Nevada city to play slot machines. She was a strong proponent of the Republican Party.
One of Donna's favorite quotes was "It's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years" by Abraham Lincoln. Hers was a life well spent.
Donna was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bernie Missal, her sister Joan (Hess) Nixon, and son James B. Missal.
