

Dorothy Wood Cornwell, 77, of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on March 15, 2021. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Volusia Memorial Park.
Dottie was born in Miami, FL to Walter Wood and Doris Thompson Wood. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts. She met and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Cornwell. They started their family with their son Robert Anderson Cornwell. Dottie was a beloved and dedicated teacher of English and Drama for 45 years. When she retired, she enjoyed spending her life with her family and traveling with Bob and friends. Dottie was an avid and accomplished tennis player. Her favorite activities included swimming, boating and going to the beach. She loved the ocean, water, and all animals.
Dottie was heavily involved with her local community. She was a member of the Volusia County Council of Teachers of English, Phi Delta Kappa, Halifax River Yacht Club, the United States Tennis Association, Vice President of the Greater Volusia Tennis League, and was on the board of the Tymber Creek Homeowners Association.
Dottie’s true passion in life was her husband of 49 years, Bob, and her children and grandchildren. Dottie’s memory will be cherished by her son Robert "Bobby" Anderson Cornwell (Krista), grandchildren: Brittany Cornwell Saam (Chris), Ashley Cornwell, Landon Cornwell, Aleah Kirby, and Kenley Kirby, great grandchildren: Carson and Beckham, and by many dear nieces and nephews. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Cornwell; brother, Larry Tift; and sister, Joyce Wood.
