Richard was born in Bakersfield, California but spent most of his youth in Wilmington, Delaware. He moved to Gainesville, Florida as a senior and attended Gainesville High School. Richard was an avid Gator fan and received his BA in Zoology from the University of Florida. He continued his education in North Miami, Florida at Southeastern College of Medicine. He spent a year in Columbus, Ohio completing his internship at Doctors Hospital. He returned to Florida and completed his training at Peninsula Medical Center and was the Chief Resident. He continued his medical career as a physician in Ormond Beach and Palm Coast for 20 years.
Richard was a very talented musician and loved playing with his college friends: Karl Holzenberg, Steve Cohn, and Jimmy Stone. He loved anything that involved water sports. He spent his spare time teaching kids to wake board, surf, and wind surf. He was a Florida Gator and loved attending the football games in Gainesville. He was a giving, loving friend, son, father, brother and husband. He was more than a doctor to many of his patients as he cared deeply for them and missed them at the end of his career.
Richard is pre deceased by his Father in law, Charles Gary Peck and Brother in Law, Ken E. Brown. He is survived by his wife and children: Julie Peck-Adams, Allison Adams and Richard James Adams; his mother and father: Mollie Adams and Cas Adams. His mother in law: Linda Peck; his Sister in law, niece and nephews: Pamela Brown, Olivia Brown, Taylor Brown, Samuel Brown , and Uncles: Harmon Cox, Tim Cox, and AJ Cox.
His family would like to thank the care shown by his doctors, Kathleen Doughney, MD, Christopher Kent, MD, Alan Oglesby,MD, and Alvaro Alvarez, MD. Their kindness and caring support through this difficult time was greatly appreciated. The nurses and staff at Oceanside- Peninsula Rehabilitation Center our family is forever grateful for your heartfelt care and kindness.
A memorial serivce will be held 1 pm Saturday June 15 at First Baptist Church of Bunnell 2301 Commerce Parkway, Bunnell, FL 32110.
