Elaine Blood was one of the final examples of “The Greatest Generation”. She did not expect fame. She did not expect glory. She did not expect an additional credit for what she did. She was a mother, housewife, wife, prepared our meals, all the meals, did our laundry, washed our clothing, healed us when we were sick, maintained a home, made our lunches and all meals, carried forth a marriage and our life direction. She was strong. She was resilient. Her cooking and baking were the best! There is no finer example of someone who represented the “Greatest Generation” and what they stood for. Elaine Blood was my mother and she raised two boys who demonstrated the necessary integrity to engage in life and be successful. And while only one of us survived, I was so very proud of my mother and have only begun to understand the odds and obstacles she had to overcome to live to the age of 95 years. I am sorry that you are gone, but you are in the place where we will all meet again, a place where the is no pain, suffering, nor misery.
She was fortunate enough to have a first marriage of 63 years and then find a companion for another 9 years who also had shared a long marriage of his own. She never gave in. She never gave up. She was persistent and instilled that dedication in her sons. She was “The Greatest Generation” personified and is survived by her oldest son, Richard, his wife Carol, and her companion since 2009, Tommie. The three of us have been her charges and she never gave up on us. The three of us will carry on and she will live on in our hearts.
Early Saturday morning, August 11th, “mom” gave herself to the Lord and was called Home. From 1922 to 2018 she presided, persisted and prevailed. It was never “easy”, but she did what she wanted to do. She left us footprints, deep dinosaur footprints, to follow and gave us the will to carry on. We are sad, and we are proud to be “sad”. Our sadness represents our love and our love has taken you to be with the Lord.
We love you and offer all that we are to you. Our love and God’s Grace belong to you and you will live in our hearts forever. We will be reunited and will carry your memory to the end until we are reunited.
Richard, Carol and Tommie
