Frances S. Miller

Frances Elizabeth Miller, age 92, passed peacefully on November 6, 2014 in Ormond Beach, FL. She was born to Cora (nee) Scott and Harry J. Stanton in New London, CT June 23, 1922. Growing up near the Atlantic Ocean gave Fran a love of walking the beach that she never lost. She attended Bridgewater State College. As a young career woman in Boston, she met the love of her life Warren F. Miller. They married on March 29, 1947 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Cambridge, MA.

Fran and Warren settled in Chelmsford, MA and had two children, Warren, Jr. in 1950 and Michele in 1953. Fran introduced her children to museums, art galleries, nature, books, and travel. Many memories revolve around these experiences. While being a busy mother, Fran was also a real estate agent for many years, and attained membership in Million Dollar Sales Club. While in Chelmsford, the family was active members of All Saints Episcopal Church. Fran also enjoyed membership in the local garden club and the League of Women Voters.

Upon Warren’s retirement, he and Fran relocated to Ormond Beach, FL, where they became devoted members of St James Episcopal Church, active at Riviera Country Club, and developed a host of wonderful friends. Fran became enthusiastically involved in literacy as a Master Tutor, achieving Volunteer of the Year for ten years. In January 2003 she was officially recognized by President George H.W. Bush’s Points of Light Organization for her work with the Volusia Literacy Council and later recognized by Jeb Bush in the Florida Points of Light Program.

Fran was the “last man standing” in her family, yet she was the oldest of 4 siblings. She lost Warren July 27, 2012, and continued on with the loving support of friends and caregivers Shirley & Rich Pollitz, and Lexi & Steven Strickland. Fran is survived by her children Warren F. Miller, Jr. and his wife Pat, of Charleston, SC, and Michele Miller Heidebrecht and her husband, Chris, of Chelmsford, MA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Jeffrey Leggee and his wife, Kim, Jofre Miller, all of Florida and Ashley Miller Palowitch, and her husband Chris, now in Texas. Fran also had five great grandchildren: Joshua Leggee, Samantha Leggee, Anna Mackenzie Leggee, Isabella Palowitch and Layton Palowitch.

Fran and Warren are to be reunited in the People's Cemetery, on Cape Cod, MA. At that time, a celebration of a fulfilling and rewarding life will be celebrated. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com
