George Quincy Voigt Jr.

George Voigt was born in 1941 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He lived in Chattanooga until his family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, when he was 8 years old. He and his family lived in Chattanooga for a short time while he was in high school and then returned to Daytona Beach. He was active in Boy Scouts of America in Chattanooga and Daytona Beach and earned his Eagle Scout Award at the age of 15. He graduated from Seabreeze High School, Daytona Beach in 1959 and received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in 1965. He earned an MBA from City University in 1993.

George began working for Boeing while he was in college and worked at Cape Canaveral Boeing Site in Florida and the Seattle site. He worked for Boeing in Seattle after graduating from college until 1968. He worked for Lockheed Georgia in Marietta, Georgia, from 1968 to 1970 and then at LTV Electrosystems in Garland, Texas. He returned to Boeing in 1971 and worked in Kent, Seattle, and Everett until he retired in 1999. George’s primary projects at Boeing were the Bomarc and Minuteman missile systems, AWACS, Nuclear Power Systems, and 777 avionics.

George married Lynda (Norris) Voigt on Christmas Day in 1966. They raised two daughters and one son in Renton, Washington, before divorcing in 1988. He remained in Renton to be near his children while they were still in school, then moved to Everett, Washington, in the late 1990s.

George enjoyed hiking, camping, and exploring National Parks. He loved raising shelties and achieved multiple obedience agility titles. He passed on his love of dogs to his children and helped them train dogs in obedience and 4-H groups. He was a leader in his children’s dog 4-H group as well as an active part of the WSOTC. He continued to stay active in raising and training Shelties in Agility

throughout his life.

George was a loving and devoted father. He gave generously to his children and grandchildren and loved to pass on his love of engineering, aeronautics, and computer programming to his grandchildren.

George is survived by his children, Cathy Wright, Barbara Martin, and David Snider; and his grandchildren Liam, William, Raleigh, Maddie, Kai, and Micah.
