George Craner Williams, 85, passed away at home on September 4, 2018 after battling lung cancer. Born to Caroline and Selby Williams in Dayton Ohio, he moved to Miami as a toddler where he grew up with his older sister Marty. After graduating from Miami Jackson Senior High School, George served in the U. S Marine Corps. After the Marine Corps, he worked for the phone company (Southern Bell) for almost 40 years beginning as a frame man and working his way up to various management positions. He enjoyed history, cooking, travelling – from Europe to Alaska and the Yukon - and volunteering with the Sojourners and the Church of Christ. He was an avid lifelong University of Miami fan. George is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Margaret Davis Williams, daughter Karan Holmes (Weatherford Texas ) , son and daughter- in- law George “ Larry “and Lori Williams (Gainesville FL), step-daughters Linda and Skip Stuart (Bronson, FL) , Cathy and Doug Hoffman (Melrose, FL ), Carla Davis, (Macon, Georgia); twelve grandchildren, Johnny, Amber, Angie, Cameron, Dana, Aaron, Kendyll, Billy, Michael, Chad, Sterling and Tiffany (RIP); and 14 great grandchildren. George also leaves behind his sister Martha (Marty), nieces Jane and Nancy and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday with a viewing at 9:30 and a service at 10:00 at the Holly Hill Church of Christ, 1725 Ridgewood Avenue, Holly Hills, FL 32117 with burial immediately following. He will be missed dearly and remain in our hearts forever. In memory of George, family requests donations to Holly Hill Church of Christ to support their mission work. Arrangements are under the care of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home.
