Gordon Phifer, 82, died Sunday October 28 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical. Mr. Phifer was born in Crossville, TN and moved to this area in 1950 from Fairborn, Ohio. He earned a Master Degree in Education Administration from Florida State University in 1966; he was a former assistant principal at Campbell Middle, Deltona Middle, Seabreeze Middle where he also was assistant football coach and New Smyrna Beach Middle. He retired in 1993 from the Volusia County Schools Maintenance Facilities in Daytona Beach. After his retirement Gordon worked as a realtor with Adams Cameron-Ormond Beach. Mr. Phifer graduated from Mainland High School in 1956, where he played football, basketball, baseball and track. During his high school and college years, Mr. Phifer also was a Volusia county lifeguard. He was an Army veteran and played on the Army baseball team. He enjoyed bowling, collecting 1920’s and 1930’s Fenton Art and was a member of Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America. He is survived by his wife of 58 Years, Marian Sue Clark Phifer; sons, Lance (Angela Styron Phifer) and Jeffrey; Brother, Charles "Toby" Phifer; Grandaughters, Miranda (Kirk), Sonora (Jon), Charlotte and Emily; Grandsons; Kurt (Amanda), Grant and Anthony; Great-grandchildren, Madison, Lorelae, Raelene, Dahlia and Ewan and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life will be held, 11:30AM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home-Ormond Beach, 548 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach. Family will receive friends, 10:30AM until service time at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home.
