Helen Maria (Dolly) Hruby Medved, of Ormond Beach, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 15, 2021. She was born to Ollie and Josephine Hruby on June 29, 1934. Helen was married to Thomas (Taush) Medved on June 1, 1953 in Republic, Pennsylvania. She and Tom moved to Miami, Florida to begin their life together. Both soon settled into the new and up-and-coming aviation industry. Helen worked first for National Airlines and later for Pan American World Airways as Assistant to the Vice Presidents of Flight Operations and Crew Training for over 30 years. She fully embraced the excitement of working for an airline, traveling whenever and wherever she could. When Pan Am ceased operations, Helen found her way into public service, where she was the Administrator for the Mayor and Council of the City of North Miami Beach for 15 years. She was always grounded by her Catholic faith from her childhood. As a wife and mother, she was very involved with Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Miami Lakes, as a Lector, Eucharist Minister, President of the Council of Catholic Women, President of the Parish Council, Chair of Legislation and CCD Instructor. She and Tom retired in 2000 and moved to Ormond Beach. After just a year of retirement, Helen was soon busy again, working part-time for H&R Block, Amscot, Volusia County Schools, and the Church of the Holy Child. She was also immersed in service at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Ormond Beach, as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, RCIA Instructor, Co-coordinator of Baptism, and with the Council of Catholic Women as Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Chair of Membership and Editor/Publisher of the Newsletter. In the last several years, she found herself in service at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange, as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and with the Sociable Seniors. She also appreciated service with The Trails Homeowners Association for a number of years, the with Architectural Control Committee and more recently as an Officer of The Trails Board of Directors. Helen is predeceased by her parents, Ollie and Josephine Hruby, and her sister, Maryann Richards. She is survived by Thomas, her darling husband of 68 years, her beloved son Daniel, her cherished spiritual-daughter Kristine (Michael), Ormond Beach, and her many treasured relatives in Pennsylvania and Michigan. She was also forever attentive to and grateful for the many friends she made along life’s journey. In addition to her love of the Lord, Helen maintained a tremendous love of animals, always accompanied by family pets and the neighborhood ducks on the lake behind her home. She enjoyed decorating her home, gardening, cooking, reading, and working on her computer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, at 2pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Helen’s memory to the Social Services Ministry at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (princeofpeaceormond.com) or the Outreach Ministry at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church (ladyofhope.org).
