Homer spent his early years throughout the Midwest, growing up in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he began his career with Magnavox Corporation.
While in Hillsdale, Michigan, Homer met Shirley May Wagner, whom he affectionately referred to throughout his life as “the girl for me.” The two were married on July 1, 1966, and shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until Shirley’s passing in August 2019. Together they blended their close-knit family—lovingly known as “the herd of turtles”—consisting of his, hers, and eventually ours.
In 1973, Homer and Shirley relocated to Ormond Beach, Florida, where Homer worked as an industrial engineer for Sparton Electronics in DeLeon Springs. He dedicated 24 years to the company before retiring.
The couple later built a home on Lake George in Pierson, Florida, where countless treasured memories were made with family and friends. Weekends were often spent boating and airboating on Lake George, the St. Johns River, and Silver Glen Springs. These gatherings created a lifetime of stories, laughter, and cherished moments that remain with those who loved him.
Homer and Shirley were also active members of the Crankin A Car Club. Together they traveled throughout the Southeast in their beloved Model A, attending car shows and parades and forming many lifelong friendships along the way.
Homer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley May Fisher; his son, Douglas Fisher; his father, Homer Harvey Fisher; and his mother, Susie Fay Kaser; his brother, Forrest Crone and sister, Onilee Crone
He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: son Tarry Scoville (Katie); daughters Sandra Manning (Russ), Vicki O’Donnell, and Pamela Underwood (Michael); son Craig Fisher (Stacey); grandchildren Kari Cornutt (Sean), Krista Winkler (Lukas), Ashley Byers (Blake), Major Manning (Amber), Devon O’Donnell, Megan O’Donnell (Ryan), Mackenzie Heddy (Nicholas), Jaeger Hanna (Jessica), and Jackson Fisher; and great-grandchildren Averi, Shane, and Kenlee Cornutt; Kylie and Landon Winkler; Hunter, Kennedy, and Lincoln Byers; Adalyn and Mickey Manning; Riley O’Donnell and Hawkins, Hudson, and Harlow Heddy.
Homer will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quiet strength, his sense of humor, and the love he shared so generously with those around him. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the countless memories created over a long and well-lived life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1 p.m. with a Gathering of family and friends from 12 p.m. to the time of service at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 North Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida.
