Hoot was born on May 30, 1928 to Martha and Charles Huhta in Duluth, MN and grew up on the family dairy farm with Finnish values during the Great Depression era. Hoot graduated from Michigan Tech in 1950 with a Bachelor Science in Electrical Engineering degree. He later graduated from Union College, Schenectady, NY, in 1963 with a Master Science in Engineering degree.
Hoot spent his career as an engineer for General Electric Co. with stints in Schenectady NY, Syracuse NY, and Daytona Beach FL. Hoot was drafted into the US Army during the Korean war and spent 21 months training new soldiers how to use anti-aircraft guns. He returned to GE in 1956. His career accomplishments included graduation from the General Electric Advanced Engineering Program, and a several award-winning job-related patents. Hoot and family moved to Ormond Beach in 1979 from Syracuse, NY. Hoot retired from GE in 1989 after 39 years. Hoot was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with family, camping, tinkering, fixing, woodworking, and gardening. He passed his love of fixing and woodworking onto his 2 sons.
Hoot was predeceased by his wife Mary Lou Bullis of 52 years, and partner Carol Jaede Creamer. Hoot is survived by his two sons Neil (Dolly) – Merritt Island FL, and Ned (Pam) – Ormond Beach FL; five grandchildren: Jaeden (Andrew), Lauren, Bench, Rhandall Victor, Joshua; and one great-granddaughter: Ainsley.
