
James Douglas Cooke, 63, of Bear Tooth Path, Ormond Beach died unexpectedly on January 8, 2011 at Halifax Hospital. He was born on August 22, 1947 in Lachine, Canada, the son of Lawrence and Madeline Cooke. His early years were spent in Canada. His family moved to the U.S.A. in 1954. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served during the Viet Nam War. He lived and worked in the Utica/Syracuse NY area moving to Bear Creek Community in Ormond Beach, Fl in 2003. He was predeceased by his father and a son John. He is survived by his mother Madeline Cooke in Camillus, NY, his wife and care giver Lorna, daughter Jodi , son James Jr. both of Utica NY and son Todd of Ormond Beach, a special twin sister Doreen(Richard) Monroe of N. Ft. Meyers, Fl two brothers Donald(Susan) of Lysander NY and David (Lisa) of Camillus NY. Jim had 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 7 nieces and 2 nephews plus family still in Canada. Also surviving are his wife’s children Michelle, Matt(Amy) Manley of N. Syracuse NY; a sister in law ,Elaine Malecki and brother in law, Lawrence Smith both of Clinton NY. Jim liked music, his computer, the pool, gambling, talking to friends and family on the phone driving on the beach and a special peace sitting by the ocean. He had a never ending sense of humor. In lieu of flowers etc., please send donations to the Heart, Cancer or the Humane Society. Services will be in the spring in New York. Jim will be missed by friends’ family and his Viet Nam Buddies. He will be in heaven to greet us all with a “Welcome Home.” Arrangements under the direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL.
