Kenneth J "Ken" Ackerman, age 93, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Raised in Hackensack, NJ, Ken attended the local high school where he met the love of his life, Lois Kastler. Ken and Lois married in 1952 and recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Ken and Lois had three children who they raised in the town of Rochelle Park, NJ, and family life became the focal point of their lives. Ken cherished spending summer days at Greenwood Lake with family, as he shared his love for boating. Throughout their upbringing, he also shared his love of pets and animals and took great satisfaction as each of his children shared their own homes with numerous pets ever since.
Ken had a long career as a truck driver for Gulf and Chevron Oil companies. He was especially proud of the safe driving records he achieved every year of his career.
The transportation industry was also the source of Ken’s favorite hobbies- driving, working on, and looking at, cars and trucks. He always had the cleanest car in the neighborhood and was pleased when other people would remark how immaculate they looked. Whenever a family member, or friend, was in need of a new or used car, they knew to ask Ken for advice or help with their search.
After their retirement, Ken and Lois moved to Ormond Beach, FL. They became active members in their community. Ken and Lois frequently enjoyed cruises with other members of the Traveler’s Club. However, it was bowling that they really enjoyed. Ken participated in their leagues for over 25 years and was extremely proud of the awards he received for high average or game and truly enjoyed the year when their team finally captured the team title.
Ken and Lois became members of Faith Lutheran Church in Ormond Beach shortly after their move to Florida. He was fond of advising his children to live a simple, honorable life and they would be richer in what matters most.
Ken proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his tour of duty was completed, Ken remained in active reserve and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Loyal, dedicated and devoted in all aspects of life, Ken will be deeply missed by his family and those who know him.
Ken’s family would like to extend their gratitude to those who cared for him for the past couple years; Faith Lutheran Church, Brookdale Ormond Beach West, Ormond Rehabilitation, Halifax Hospice, Mary Ann Gleason and her team.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Loretta and Harry Ackerman; siblings, Bob Ackerman, Millie Stockholm, and mother-in-law, Irma Kastler.
