Mark worked for us from 2010-2020. He quickly became a mentor and a friend. A quick story that I shared at his retirement, that I've reflected on since he passed: When we were working a shift, we'd pull door-to-door, he'd look at me and say "9 1/2 hours left!" He drove me nuts with that. At the time, a 12-hour shift was something you had to endure - handle your watch, hope nothing goofy happened, and count down the time until going home. But not LITERALLY counting down! Later, I'd see him again. "6 hours to go!" "Dammit Mark!" We'd laugh and move on. Upon reflection, I don't believe he was counting down the shift -  he was reframing it. The shift wasn't something to "get through," it was the job. It was the opportunity to help people who needed it. We were out there, in uniform, in cop cars, ready to serve when the situation arose. And his way - simple, consistent, and a little annoying, was a reminder to be present in it. Not thinking about the end of shift, not thinking about days off, just doing the job, right then, right there, the way it needed to be done. Service over self. That was Mark. I will miss his Chicago mannerisms, his humor, his bear stew and venison jerky, and the way he taught without it feeling like a lesson. He showed by example how to be a cop, a dad, a supervisor, and above all else, a dear friend. My biggest regret is that I didn't spend more time with him after he left. It felt like there would always be time later. There isn't. "4 hours left." I'm grateful for the time I had with him, for his kindness, his patience, and his example. I hope to "be like Mark" with every minute of time I have left. To always remember, to be present. I love you 3, I am always here if you need anything. I am so sorry for your loss. - Corey

On a personal level, Mark was a great friend. We played many rounds of golf together and had many laughs and a few beers together.  He loved his family deeply and devoted himself to their care.

On a professional level, he loved being a police officer and being a member of the Ormond Beach Police Department.  He was a natural leader who set an example for his peers and served as an inspiration for his team members, through his energy, intelligence and positive attitude.  I was proud to have him as part of my leadership team.

He will be sorely missed, but I’m sure Heaven has another deserving angel.   God speed my friend.

I enjoyed working with Mark at Ormond Beach PD for years. You could count on him to bring a smile to your face. I'm a firm believer that when you lose someone connected to us they become a part of us and continue to live on through us. My deepest condolences.

Mark was a special friend from childhood in Chicago. My sincere condolences to all the family at this sad time. May he be in peace.

So grateful to have known my brother-in-law, Mark Walker. Mark was a tough guy with a gentle heart. He always made people feel welcome when he’d say,”Come on in and sit down”. Excellent hunter. Talented whittler of wood. What a chef! Amazing how he could whip up delicious food with just a few simple ingredients. Will miss Mark’s jokes. Don’t know how he remembered so many. But, they always made us laugh. Felt honored when he said how much he enjoyed visiting our farm. There were times he didn’t even hunt, just enjoyed nature. Really appreciated his and everybody’s help during Hay Fest! Mark taught us a lot. Not as jaw-dropping as the stop sign joke, but oddly similar. Don’t always Just slow down. Sometimes it is best to stop for a moment and check out your surroundings before you move on.

We had the pleasure of meeting Mark at a few family celebrations, including our daughter's wedding to Zach.  Even in those brief moments, his warmth and kindness was clear.  Our condolences to the family during this difficult time. Sending thoughts of comfort and strength  to your entire family.

Ive known Mark since 1980 when we worked together at Port Orange Police Dept.  Mark and I shared a lot of good times together ,he was one of a kind ,  Everyone  loved Mark!
Im so sorrry Kathy, Kasey and Kallie ,  I cant imagine  how nuch of a loss this is for you all.   I remember when Kasey and Kallie were babbies , Your father was so proud  and happy to be a daddy and made several comments to me about it. Kathy, you were the glue that held the family together and I know that Mark loved you very much!

I worked with Mark at Ormond Beach Police Department for many years.  Once I met Mark and told him my name, everytime he saw me in the hallway or he called into the PD and I would answer the phone, he would start singing to me "Juanita, Juanita " like that old Deputy Barney Fife did to his girlfriend on the Andy Griffin Show. OMG he would always crack me up when he did that. 🤣.  Mark always knew how to make you laugh, especially when you were feeling down.  Also I'll never forget his kindness during the hurricane when he let me stay at his house because I couldn't go to my Beachside home. Mark truly was one of a kind. Love him and Miss him. Love and prayers 🙏 ❤️ to Kathy and the Walker Family .

Condolence to a great guy and fine police officer. I knew Mark as a kid in Chicago and thought he was a wonderful  person. Years later I met Mark Walker again as a Police Officer for Ormond Beach Police Department .  As a Former Police Officer from the Illinois State Police, I was proud of Marl Walker accomplishments at Ormond Beach Police Department. You will always be remembered by my family and remembered as a great person and friend. Rest In Peace. Richard Gumiran.

Afternoons at the house with Dunny is how I will always remember Mark. Smiling,happy,generous and full of life.  He put the twins on Dunny for their very first horse ride when they were 4.  He built a place for Dunny to hang with him while he did projects and woodwork because he loved that horse so much. Afternoons spent with Mark and Cathy were always fun and they felt like family. Our entire family grieves the loss of Mark and we are eternally grateful for the memories he helped us make.

Some men wear the badge. Others become it not because the job defines them, but because who they already were made the job means something more. Mark Walker was the second kind.
Working alongside him, you understood quickly that what he brought to law enforcement wasn’t manufactured by training or policy. It was already inside him. The steadiness. The straight talk. The way he treated people  on both sides of whatever situation he walked into  with a consistency that never wavered depending on who was watching.
In this work, you learn fast who means what they say. Mark meant it. Every time. There was no version of him that showed up differently on a hard night versus an easy one. He was the same man at the end of a brutal shift as he was at the beginning of a quiet one, and that kind of reliability is rarer than people realize until they’ve stood beside someone who doesn’t have it. Sixty-seven years. A life poured into service, into showing up, into being someone others could count on without asking twice. That doesn’t disappear. It lives in the people he worked with, in the calls he answered, in every officer who learned something about how to carry this job with dignity just by watching him do it.

I’ll never forget the early days of Mark and Cathy— people used to call them Ken and Barbie because they were such a perfect pair. But Markie, you were so much more than just a handsome face; you were one of the most caring souls I’ve ever known. You outshined any Ken doll, inside and out. Rest in peace. my dear Brother. Thinking of you and praying for the family constantly, Sissy. I hope you can feel the love and strength coming your way. Here for you always.

My heart is heavy for Mark’s family. I’ve known him for over 46 years, back to when we were young, just starting out in our careers. We worked side by side and shared a lot of life in those early days.
Mark was a true friend, a dedicated and outstanding law enforcement officer, and above all, an incredible family man. He loved Cathy and his girls deeply and never missed a chance to talk about how much they meant to him. I’m grateful to have had him not only as a coworker, but as a friend. He was one of a kind and will be missed more than words can say.
My thoughts and prayers are with all who loved him. Rest in peace, brother 💙

A lot of people knew him as mark but I was fortunate enough to know him as Uncle Markie. 
He always reminded me he was a phone call away, had food in the kitchen to be eaten if you were hungry, and that he loved us (my son and I). 
He was and always will be my dad’s best friend. 
I am thankful to have been loved and protected by him. He is and will always be missed.
