Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mark built a life defined by dedication, strength, and deep love for his family. He proudly served his community as a police officer for the cities of Holly Hill, Port Orange, Ormond Beach and Ponce Inlet, a role that reflected his commitment to protecting others and doing what was right.
Mark was a hardworking, loving, and loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was known for his incredible sense of humor, his quick wit, and his seemingly endless collection of random knowledge. Whether he was sharing a story, cracking an elaborate dad joke, or quietly chuckling to himself, he had a way of bringing joy to those around him.
Above all, Mark loved his family. He cherished his wife, Cathy Walker, his daughters, Kallie Lynn Walker-Simpson and Kacie Michelle Byle, and his beloved grandchildren, Charles Walker Byle, Owen Walker Simpson, Ella Grey Byle, and Canaan Matthew Simpson. His blue-eyed smile when he saw his grandchildren is something that will never be forgotten.
Mark had a passion for life outside of work as well. He enjoyed hunting, golf, racquetball, and baseball. Some of the most treasured moments were the simple ones; watching his daughters play sports at Mainland High School, hanging out with the Fine Friends of the Clover Hunting Club and watching Jeopardy! and The Price Is Right with his family and best friend Mel, laughing together in the comfort of his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Walker and Ida Dunn Walker; his brothers, Larry, Ray, David, and Kenny Walker; and his sisters, Kathy and Laura Walker.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday May 9, with visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a quick service at 2:30 p.m. Immediately after the service, family and friends are invited to continue honoring Mark’s life at Forever Ranch.
