Marlene was born in Williamsport, PA, on June 27, 1936. She was raised in Watsontown, PA and graduated from Watsontown High School. Her postsecondary education occurred at the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisburg, PA, where she began a lifelong career in the provision of healthcare as a registered nurse. Her nursing practice included work in the surgical and psychiatric departments of Harrisburg area hospitals before she would begin a long career in family practice with Drs. Stahl and Zimmerman in Mechanicsburg, PA. Marlene was a longtime member of the congregation at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, and selflessly volunteered her time in support of the local civic club and the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. In later years, she also volunteered serving the residents of Messiah Village and Bethany Village senior living communities. Marlene enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling, reading and music. She played the piano and the clarinet, and enjoyed taking trips to Broadway shows, the New Jersey shore and attending performances of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.
Marlene was a kind, caring and giving person who laughed easily and valued her many friendships. She possessed a strong faith and instilled in her children the importance of family, hard work in a satisfying career, service to others and doing what is right. She was a source of inspiration to many and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time in PA.
