Marshall Richards Ransom

Marshall Richards Ransom, 76, of Statesboro, GA (formerly Ormond Beach, FL) died July 27, 2026.

Marshall was born on July 10, 1950 in Schenectady, NY to Donald Ransom and Margaret (Frankling) Ransom. His early years were spent in Schenectady, Livingston, NJ, and Pittsfield, MA. When he was 13, GE moved the family to Ormond Beach where he would spend the next 40 years.

Marshall graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1968 as valedictorian of his class. He attended Brown University, and upon graduating in 1972 began teaching mathematics at Holly Hill Junior High. An educator who left a lasting impression on students, Marshall spent 30 years in the Volusia County School System as a math teacher, district math supervisor, and assistant principal. While teaching he attended Stetson University earning a Masters in Mathematics and an Education Specialist degree.

After retiring from the Volusia County School System, he moved to Statesboro, GA where he taught mathematics at Georgia Southern University. Marshall retired from Georgia Southern after nearly twenty years having been awarded the title of Principle Lecturer Emeritus.

In addition to Marshall’s teaching, he was devoted to the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus Program. From 1991 to 2025, he spent weeks each summer grading calculus exams for fun. Additionally, he served as the President of the Georgia Association of Advanced Placement Mathematics Teachers and won the John Neff Award from that group for his tireless service to the AP program.

Marshall is survived by his love of 26 years, Sharon Taylor; children Jeannette (Ronny) Remington, Richie Ransom, Patrick Ransom, and Maureen Ransom; five grandchildren Lillian Ransom, Evan Ransom, Kennedy Remington, Miles Remington, and Charlotte Ransom; two granddogs Stryker and Blue Magoo; brothers Bruce Ransom and Doug (Wendy) Ransom; and nieces Monica (Jason) Pomroy and Kendra (Chris) Lewis.

Gathering of family and friends Saturday, August 22nd 10am - 11am. Celebration of Life service will be Saturday August 22nd at 11am at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, Florida

Marshall will be remembered as a loving father, exceptional teacher, and good friend to all who knew him. He leaves a lasting legacy in his children, grandchildren, friends, and former students.
