

Richard George Mahon, aged 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 20, 2016. He had recently moved to Ormond Beach, Florida from Tampa, Florida to be closer to his family.
Richard devoted his life to his family and to the service of people. He graduated from Fordham University in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He then spent 42 years working in the social service field, which included 9 years at the Department of Health and Human Services in New York City followed by 33 years at Hillsborough County of Florida’s Department of Health and Human Services. He was an incredibly dedicated human service professional and received an employee of the year award from Hillsborough County. Richard also loved music, reading, and film and shared his love for the arts with his family. His gentle, caring nature, dry sense of humor, and kindness will be missed by all.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Carol Marchetta Mahon; his three children Richard James Mahon of Ormond Beach, Lisa Mahon of Easthampton, Massachusetts, and Christopher Mahon of Ormond Beach; a son-in-law, Boris Kolba, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mahon; three granddaughters Kathleen and Abigail Mahon and Adira Mahon-Kolba; and one brother James Mahon of Bronx, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Florida Hospital Hospice Care in Ormond Beach, Florida. A graveside service will take place at 1:45p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach, FL.
