

He spent his early years in Onekama and Holland, Michigan; later moving to Battle Creek where he met his wife. He eventually made his way to Tampa, Florida, and from there to Ormond Beach where he has resided for the past several years. He graduated from Holland High School in 1957 and then attended Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan obtaining an Associate in Business degree in 1959. He was drafted into the Army in 1963 and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. He served two years with some of his basic training taking place in California. During his service he played baritone in the army band. His careers included being a CPA, owned a real estate company in Michigan where he was also an agent, he was a sales agent and assistant manager for the Southern Region for VALIC (tax deferred annuities), and his final profession was being a real estate broker.
He had the most amazing sense of humor that he shared with everyone. He had a love of the Lord and a deep sense of care to all who met him. He was an amazing artist and poet, played trumpet and baritone, played the banjo, sang in the church choir for many years, performed with local orchestras, and performed in several local plays in his younger years. He loved sailing, boating, and fishing. He had a passion for the harmonica and music boxes. His love for his family was immense. He will be deeply missed.
He was the son of Rev. Edward & Elvira Ruhlig, who preceded him in death along with his step-mother Swannie and a step-sister. He is survived by his wife Cynthia L. Ruhlig (Austensen); daughter Melissa Ciacchella (Daniel); grandchildren Gabriella and Matthew; brother Edward Ruhlig (Susan), and sisters Elvira Aubel (Joseph) and Carolyn Funckes (William); a step-sister and three step-brother’s ; 14 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
